Blastin' Out The Back!

The last few weeks have been spent on framing and foundation work - not much fun stuff to take pictures of until recently. The foundation is complete, and framing of the first two levels is almost done. The photos below show the kitchen and living room areas:

Framing in the back porch and tying it into what will eventually be a large living room that opens to the kitchen and back yard.

A view from the living room into where the kitchen will be.

The new opening in the back of the house, where the living room will open onto the deck and backyard.

More framing of the side porch.

View of the new opening from the messy backyard.

Demolition Is Complete

The house is completely down to the studs now, and it looks great. Foundation work begins next week, then on to framing.

During demolition...

Wyatt and I stopped by the house tonight to see how the demolition was going. So far, so good!

Here's a few photos of the house before construction began...

We Have Permits

After only two months we are ready to go, permits in hand! Full-scale demolition will begin next week. Our contractor estimates that work will take about four months. We still have one last permit to obtain, the deck permit. We were not able to get that issued over the counter so that permit will take an additional 3-4 months. Hopefully by the time the interior work is complete, we will have the permit for the deck so that work will be completed at the tail end of the project.

A Done Deal

It all started with my obsession of flat streets with wide sidewalks, a house big enough for a growing family, and a for sale sign. The rest of the journey led us to multiple offers, a failed attempt to purchase the property on the courthouse steps, and then finally the most unlikely of done deals. Now we have a new home.
